Over the past few months I've been on a Lifestyle Change, not a diet. I've had great success both with weight loss and overall health. Of course, since I've had such great results I wanted to share with everyone. This included my parents. They are in their 70's, have gotten quite chubby and with that has come high blood pressure (nearly stroke level w/medication), high cholesterol and thyroid problems. Here is where the frustration begins.
First off, between myself and my husband we have lost almost 40 pounds since August. I no longer need anxiety meds or migraine medication. So, I know that I have seen the difference in health results from changing what you put in your body. I have talked to so many people with the same issues as my parents that have seen unbelievable results in their health, so I definitely wanted this for them too.
Mom, she is doing awesome with almost 4 inches overall lost. Dad, well that's where the title comes from. In 2 months the scale and measurements haven't moved. He was frustrated and so was I. So, this week we sat down and I said, "Let's go through your day and see what we need to change. What do you eat for breakfast?" He says, "Well, every morning I have 4 pieces of toast with butter and brown sugar. I do my exercises, skip lunch and if your mom doesn't feel like cooking supper I eat a bowl of cereal and bag of popcorn." Do you see where I'm going with this? This is not good for anyone. I took a deep breath and said, "Dad you have to eat or your body goes into starvation mode and protects itself. You have to eat, you need protein and 3 meals a day. Brown sugar toast is not a meal." Well, dad is the dad and doesn't care to be told what to do. He simply replies, "If you don't eat, you don't gain weight. It's simple math."
This weekend we are going to the store and he is picking out food to eat, that he will eat even if I have to go over there and fix it for him and sit at the table til he's done.
I'm hoping with adding food to his supplements he too will start to see a change. Next week will definitely be interesting and I can't wait to update you on his progress.
